New Delhi: ADNOC has signed a 10-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply agreement with Gujarat Energy Limited (GEL) to supply up to 4 million tonnes of LNG from 2028. The agreement marks the first commercial sale from XRG, ADNOC’s international investment arm, and strengthens energy cooperation between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The deal will help Gujarat Energy secure long-term natural gas supplies for India’s growing energy needs.
Details of ADNOC Gujarat Energy LNG deal
Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has agreed to supply up to 4 million tonnes of LNG to Gujarat Energy Limited over a period of 10 years, starting in 2028.
The agreement is structured as a long-term Sales and Purchase Agreement (SPA). It is ADNOC’s fifth LNG supply agreement in India.
The deal also marks the first commercial sale from XRG’s international gas portfolio, giving the company a new route to supply LNG to customers in India.
What Is The Importance Of ADNOC Gujarat Energy LNG deal
The agreement is important because India is working to increase the use of natural gas in industries, households, power generation and transportation.

Long-term LNG supply agreements can help energy companies plan their future requirements and maintain a more reliable supply.
For ADNOC, the agreement strengthens its presence in the Indian energy market. For Gujarat Energy, it provides access to another long-term source of imported natural gas.
XRG Expands Its International LNG Business
XRG is ADNOC’s wholly owned international investment company. It focuses on investments in natural gas, chemicals and other energy solutions.
The company has an enterprise value of more than USD 150 billion. It aims to build an internationally connected energy business and benefit from growing global demand.
The Gujarat Energy agreement gives XRG its first commercial customer for LNG from its international investment portfolio.
It also supports ADNOC’s strategy to expand beyond its traditional role as a producer and supplier of Abu Dhabi’s hydrocarbons.
ADNOC’s Existing LNG Supply Agreements With Indian Companies
ADNOC and its gas subsidiary have already signed long-term LNG supply agreements with three major Indian energy companies:
- Indian Oil Corporation (IOC): IOC has agreements for a combined 2.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of LNG. These include a 14-year agreement for 1.2 MTPA from ADNOC Gas’ Das Island facility and a separate 15-year agreement for 1 MTPA from the Ruwais LNG project.
- GAIL India: GAIL has contracted up to 0.52 MTPA of LNG for 10 years, starting in 2026.
- Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL): HPCL has a 10-year LNG supply agreement for 0.5 MTPA.
The new Gujarat Energy agreement further expands ADNOC’s long-term business relationships with Indian energy companies.
ADNOC Targets 47 Million Tonnes Of LNG Trading By 2030
ADNOC launched its global LNG marketing and trading platform at Abu Dhabi Global Market in July 2026.
The platform aims to build a strong international LNG trading business by connecting global gas supplies with customers in major energy markets.
It has also signed supply agreements with Japan’s INPEX and Thailand’s Gulf Group, along with the Gujarat Energy agreement in India.
ADNOC is targeting 47 million tonnes per annum of marketable LNG by 2030. This is part of its ambition to become one of the world’s major LNG suppliers.
How The ADNOC Gujarat Energy LNG deal Could Benefit India’s Energy Sector
India needs reliable energy supplies to support industrial growth, electricity generation and increasing household consumption.
Natural gas is considered a lower-carbon fuel than coal and oil in many applications. It can also support cleaner cooking, industrial operations and transportation.
The new agreement could help Gujarat Energy diversify its LNG supply sources and improve long-term supply planning. However, the actual commercial impact will depend on LNG prices, contract conditions, delivery arrangements and future market demand.
