In a significant step toward urban transformation, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has approved the proposal to develop Muzaffarnagar as a Smart City. The decision was made during a divisional review meeting held in Saharanpur, following a formal proposal by Mr. Kapil Dev Aggarwal, Minister of State (Independent Charge), which received the Chief Minister’s immediate consent.

CM Yogi instructed senior officials to promptly begin the formulation of a comprehensive master plan for Muzaffarnagar. The plan will focus on integrating modern urban infrastructure, including a city-wide drainage system, underground power cabling, a state-of-the-art bus terminal, widening of arterial roads, and a multi-layer commercial complex to support business and transportation needs.
Rising Population, Urgent Need for Infrastructure Upgrade
According to Mr. Kapil Dev Aggarwal, the city’s population has now exceeded 6 lakh, necessitating immediate steps to bolster civic infrastructure. He underlined the importance of constructing a new bus stand along NH-58, which will help decongest city roads, along with the widening of Shamli Road to ensure smoother vehicular movement.
