Ranchi: The National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi, in collaboration with MyGov, the Government of India’s citizen engagement platform, organised the ‘MyGov Connect’ programme on October 10, 2026. The initiative aims to encourage young people to participate in governance, public policy discussions and nation-building as India works towards its vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
The programme brought together students and representatives to introduce young people to opportunities for citizen participation and digital engagement. More than 200 students from various universities and colleges were expected to participate, giving them a platform to discuss national priorities, share ideas and understand how citizens can contribute to development.
The event combined discussions on governance with cultural activities, a consumer awareness quiz and an environmental initiative on the university campus.
NUSRL Ranchi and MyGov Join Hands to Engage Youth
MyGov Connect seeks to familiarise students with ways to engage with government initiatives and contribute to public discussions. Through digital platforms and citizen participation programmes, young people can share ideas, express concerns and take part in conversations around policies and development priorities.
Prof. (Dr.) Ashok R. Patil, Vice-Chancellor of NUSRL, was scheduled to address the participants. Shri Ajit Kumar, IAS, Chief Executive Officer of MyGov, was also set to join the programme online and motivate students to take an active interest in governance and nation-building.
Representatives from MyGov were expected to explain the platform’s citizen engagement initiatives, introduce the ‘MyGov Saathi’ programme and discuss opportunities for young people to participate in governance processes.
The interaction aimed to help students understand that civic participation extends beyond voting. Citizens can also contribute by sharing suggestions, participating in consultations, learning about public initiatives and engaging with issues that affect their communities.
Students to Share Ideas on Viksit Bharat 2047
A key part of the programme focused on the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, which aims to make India a developed nation by the centenary of its Independence.
Students were expected to share their perspectives on themes connected to India’s development, including:
- Viksit Bharat and Atmanirbhar Bharat: The vision of national development, self-reliance and stronger domestic capabilities.
- Digital India and Startup India: The role of digital services, innovation and entrepreneurship in creating opportunities.
- Make in India: Strengthening domestic manufacturing and encouraging economic growth.
- Green growth and the circular economy: Promoting sustainable development, efficient resource use and environmental responsibility.
These discussions were designed to give students an opportunity to connect national development goals with their own ideas and experiences. They also encouraged participants to consider how young people can contribute to innovation, sustainability and public welfare.
By creating space for students to express their views, the programme sought to strengthen their understanding of public issues and encourage informed participation in the country’s development journey.
Cultural Performances to Add a Creative Dimension
The programme also featured cultural performances by university students, including group dance, street plays, poetry recitation and singing.
These activities provided a creative platform for students to express ideas and engage with social themes beyond formal discussions. Street plays and poetry, in particular, can help communicate public messages in accessible ways and encourage conversations around civic responsibility and social change.
The inclusion of cultural activities added a student-led dimension to the programme, combining discussion and participation with creative expression.
MyGov Quiz to Promote Consumer Awareness
A MyGov quiz on consumer awareness was also scheduled as part of the event. It aimed to familiarise students with consumer rights and responsibilities.
Consumer awareness helps people make informed decisions when purchasing goods and services. Understanding these rights can also help individuals recognise unfair practices, seek appropriate remedies and become more responsible participants in the marketplace.
For students preparing to enter professional and public life, awareness of consumer protection is a practical aspect of citizenship. The quiz offered an interactive way to introduce these issues and encourage participants to learn more about their rights.
Plantation Drive Under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’
Environmental conservation formed another part of MyGov Connect. A plantation drive was planned on the NUSRL campus under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.
The initiative envisaged planting 20 saplings with the participation of students, faculty members, MyGov Saathis and distinguished guests. Participants were also expected to share their views on environmental protection, climate change and sustainable development.
The activity connected the broader discussion on Viksit Bharat with local environmental action. Planting saplings can contribute to greener surroundings, while discussions on climate change help students understand the importance of protecting natural resources.
The initiative also highlighted how educational institutions can encourage environmental responsibility through activities that involve students and faculty members.
Why Youth Participation Matters for Viksit Bharat
India’s development goals involve more than economic growth and infrastructure. They also depend on informed citizens, effective governance, social responsibility and public participation.
Programmes such as MyGov Connect can introduce students to channels through which they can contribute ideas and engage with public initiatives. They also help bridge the gap between discussions about national priorities and the everyday concerns of young people.
For students from different universities and colleges, the programme offered an opportunity to discuss issues ranging from digital transformation and entrepreneurship to consumer rights and environmental sustainability.
The event at NUSRL Ranchi reflects an effort to encourage young people to take a more active role in civic life. By combining governance discussions, cultural expression, consumer awareness and environmental action, MyGov Connect sought to make citizen participation more accessible to students.
As India moves towards its 2047 development vision, engaging young people in public dialogue can help build awareness, encourage new ideas and strengthen their sense of responsibility towards society and the country.
