New Delhi: National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) has announced the appointment of Dr. Veena Kumari Dermal as Part-time Official Director on its Board, effective May 4, 2026. The appointment was made through an order issued by the Ministry of Mines in accordance with SEBI’s Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements (LODR) Regulations, 2015.
She succeeds Sanjay Lohiya, former Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Mines, in this role.
Over 27 Years of Administrative and Policy Experience
Dr. Dermal is a 1998-batch Indian Postal Service (IPoS) officer and currently serves as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Mines. With over 27 years of experience, she brings deep expertise in public administration, policy formulation, and governance.
Her career spans key areas such as technology transformation, postal administration, and mineral policy, making her a valuable addition to NALCO’s leadership.

Strong Background in Mineral Policy and Governance
Prior to her current role, Dr. Dermal served as Chief Postmaster General of the Telangana Circle. She also held the position of Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Mines, where she played a significant role in shaping India’s mineral policy.
During her tenure, she contributed to key legislative reforms, including amendments to the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act and the Offshore Areas Mineral (Development and Regulation) Act. She also chaired a committee responsible for identifying India’s critical and strategic minerals and oversaw offshore mining administration.
Academic Excellence and Professional Credentials
Dr. Dermal holds a B.Sc. in Agriculture and an M.Sc. in Horticulture from Kerala Agricultural University. She earned her Ph.D. in Horticulture from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi.
In addition, she completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Policy from the Indian Institute of Management Bengaluru and has participated in several national and international training programs.
Strengthening Governance and Strategic Oversight
NALCO confirmed that Dr. Dermal is not related to any directors or key managerial personnel and is not debarred by any regulatory authority from holding the position.
The Board continues to be led by Chairman-cum-Managing Director Brijendra Pratap Singh, along with functional and nominee directors. Her appointment is expected to enhance the company’s governance framework and provide strategic direction, especially in areas related to mineral resources and policy.
