Ranchi: The ongoing National Book Fair at the district school grounds in Ranchi has become a major attraction for book lovers, scholars, and students alike. Organized jointly by Samay India and the Book Fair Committee, the 10-day fair has drawn attention to the rich history, culture, and tribal heritage of Jharkhand, along with growing interest in mental health and self-development literature among the youth.
Fair Details and Participation
The fair, which began on January 26, 2026, will continue until February 4, 2026, and remains open daily from 11:00 am to 7:30 pm. Over 100 stalls have been set up, showcasing books from more than 50 publishers, offering visitors a wide range of genres including history, culture, literature, children’s books, biographies, and self-help titles.
The event has attracted readers of all ages, creating a lively atmosphere where literature enthusiasts explore both contemporary and regional works.

Focus on Jharkhand’s History, Culture, and Tribal Heritage
Chandra Bhushan, managing trustee of Samay Publication, highlighted the surge in demand for books focusing on Jharkhand’s revolutionaries, indigenous communities, language, tourism, art, and cultural identity. He said, “Books dedicated to Jharkhand’s 24 districts, tribes, Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), and illustrated volumes on tourism, traditions, art, and culture have emerged as key attractions.”
Publishers reported high interest in multi-volume works on tribal history, freedom movements, regional identity, and tourism compendiums, reflecting readers’ desire to explore the state’s rich socio-cultural roots. Several stalls also featured popular works by noted authors, children’s storybooks, epics, biographies, and self-help titles, which have seen brisk sales.
Growing Youth Interest in Self-Development and Mental Health
The book fair has also captured the attention of young readers seeking guidance on mental health, well-being, and personal growth. Birendra Kumar, state in-charge of Samay Prakashan, noted, “Readers are increasingly showing curiosity about Jharkhand’s socio-cultural roots, history, and identity, reflecting a renewed interest in understanding the state beyond textbooks.”
Divya Ojha, a visitor to the fair, shared her thoughts: “I am glad to see so many books on history and tribal culture in one place. At the same time, mental health and self-help books are helping young people like us find guidance and balance in everyday life.”
