New Delhi: Sanjay Kumar Mishra has assumed charge as Director (Technical) at Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), bringing with him 37 years of experience in the coal mining industry. A graduate in Mining Engineering, Mishra has held key positions across four subsidiaries of Coal India Limited (CIL), gaining extensive experience in mining operations and project management.
Before his appointment, Mishra was serving as General Manager at South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL). His professional expertise spans mine operations, project development, strategic planning, mine safety and technological advancement.
Sanjay Kumar Mishra’s 37-Year Career in Coal Mining
Mishra began his career with Coal India Limited in August 1989 as Shift In-Charge at Saoner I Mine under Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) in Nagpur.
He subsequently served as Colliery Manager at Singhali Colliery in SECL’s Korba area from 2000 to 2007. During his career, he also held the position of Area General Manager at Dipka Area and served in various key roles across Coal India subsidiaries.
His professional journey includes experience with Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) and Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL). His diverse experience across these organisations has provided him with a broad understanding of mining operations, production management and the development of coal mining projects.
Before taking up his new assignment, Mishra was posted at SECL Headquarters.

Educational Qualifications and Management Training
Mishra holds a degree in Mining Engineering and has also undertaken professional management training to strengthen his leadership and administrative capabilities.
In 2016, he completed the General Management Programme at the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), Hyderabad.
His technical background, combined with decades of operational and managerial experience, is expected to support his responsibilities in mining operations, project execution, safety management and technological development at NCL.

Following his appointment, Northern Coalfields Limited and Coal India Limited welcomed Mishra and extended their best wishes for a successful tenure as Director (Technical).
His appointment comes with extensive experience in the coal mining sector, including operational management and strategic planning across multiple Coal India subsidiaries.
