Singrauli: State-owned coal major Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Singrauli district administration to support the construction of new ponds under the Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan, strengthening water conservation and groundwater recharge efforts in the region.
The initiative aims to improve water availability, support agriculture, and enhance rural drinking water access in Singrauli district, Madhya Pradesh.
₹25 Lakh CSR Support for Construction of Three Ponds
Under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, NCL will provide ₹25 lakh financial assistance for the construction of three new ponds in:
- Sulkhan Khurd village
- Naikhawa village
- Korsar village
All three sites are located in the Chitrangi block of Singrauli district.
The project is part of a broader effort to strengthen local water resources and promote sustainable water management practices.
Focus on Water Conservation and Groundwater Recharge
The pond construction project is expected to deliver multiple environmental and social benefits, including:
- Improved groundwater recharge
- Better irrigation facilities for farmers
- Enhanced access to clean drinking water
- Reduction in water scarcity issues in rural areas
Officials stated that the initiative will play a key role in ensuring long-term water sustainability in the region.
Support for Rural Livelihoods and Public Health
Beyond irrigation benefits, the project is also expected to improve rural living conditions.
Access to cleaner and more reliable water sources is likely to help reduce the incidence of water-borne diseases in nearby villages, contributing to better public health outcomes.
Farmers in the region are also expected to benefit from improved water availability for agricultural activities.

- Rajeev Ranjan, General Manager (CSR), NCL
- Jagdish Gome, Chief Executive Officer (Panchayat), Singrauli District Administration
The agreement reflects coordinated efforts between the company and local administration to implement development-focused environmental projects.
