Indian Masterminds Stories

New Delhi: In a landmark achievement under the Digital India initiative, the National e-Governance Division (NeGD), operating under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has successfully enabled the Pan-India integration of nearly 2,000 e-Government services on the DigiLocker and e-District platforms.

With this milestone, citizens across all 36 States and Union Territories can now access essential services anytime, anywhere – from downloading government-issued certificates to applying for welfare schemes, paying utility bills, and more.

Maharashtra Leads with 254 Services Available Digitally

Among the states, Maharashtra leads the nation by offering 254 e-services, followed by Delhi (123), Karnataka (113), Assam (102), and Uttar Pradesh (86). Other major contributors include

  • Kerala & Jammu & Kashmir: 77 services each
  • Andhra Pradesh: 76
  • Gujarat: 64
  • Tamil Nadu & Goa: 63 each
  • Haryana: 60
  • Himachal Pradesh: 58

As of now, a total of 1,938 digital services have been made available to the public across India, significantly enhancing the ease of governance and public service delivery.

Strengthening the Digital Backbone of India

This integration is a critical step toward paperless, mobile-first governance, aligning with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to create a digitally empowered and inclusive society. The effort contributes directly to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by fostering transparency, accessibility, and service efficiency.

DigiLocker, a flagship digital infrastructure under NeGD, has emerged as a trusted and secure platform that ensures interoperability, data privacy, and scalable citizen engagement. It continues to play a central role in providing digital access to verified documents and services.

Future-Ready Vision: AI-Driven Expansion Ahead

Building on this momentum, NeGD is gearing up for the next wave of innovation by integrating AI-driven technologies into its service platforms. The goal is to expand the scope and quality of e-Government services while also ensuring greater last-mile connectivity.

Planned initiatives include

  • Structured training programmes and awareness workshops at the State level
  • Enhanced use of emerging technologies to boost inclusivity and service efficiency
  • Continuous innovation for citizen-first governance

About NeGD

Established in 2009 under Digital India Corporation, the National e-Governance Division operates as an Independent Business Division within MeitY. NeGD supports the implementation and management of e-Governance projects across India, offering technical, strategic, and advisory services to both central and state-level government bodies.

NeGD manages several key digital platforms including

  • DigiLocker
  • UMANG
  • API Setu
  • myScheme
  • Entity Locker
  • OpenForge
  • India Stack Global

These platforms form the backbone of India’s digital public infrastructure, making government services accessible, efficient, and citizen-centric.
