New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will install Retrofit Emission Control Devices (RECDs) on 25 diesel generator (DG) sets operating along Dwarka Expressway to help control air pollution in Delhi-NCR.
The initiative covers Package-IV, an 8.7-km stretch connecting Basai to the Kherki Dhaula and Delhi-Gurugram Expressway cloverleaf intersection. It aims to strengthen compliance with air-quality regulations, particularly during winter, when pollution levels across the National Capital Region often rise.
Emission Control Devices to Support Cleaner Operations
The RECDs will be installed on DG sets used for expressway lighting and other related operations. The work will include installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance of the devices.
The initiative follows directions from the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), which has prescribed emission-control measures for diesel generator sets operating in Delhi-NCR. These measures are particularly important during the winter season under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

GPS-Tagged Photos for Compliance Verification
NHAI will maintain GPS-tagged photographs of RECD installations at each DG set or location to support verification and regulatory compliance.
The initiative forms part of NHAI’s broader effort to integrate environmental safeguards into national highway construction and operations. By fitting emission-control systems to generator sets used for essential expressway services, the authority aims to reduce emissions while maintaining these operations.
The move adds to efforts to improve air quality in Delhi-NCR, where controlling emissions from multiple sources remains important, especially during the winter pollution season.
