NLC India Limited, a Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Coal, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IREL (India) Limited to collaborate on the development of critical mineral assets, including rare earth elements (REE).
The agreement aims to facilitate cooperation in mining, excavation, refining, and related operations by acquiring assets or sourcing raw materials both domestically and internationally.

IREL (India) Limited, a PSU headquartered in Mumbai, specializes in mining and refining rare earth metals, with an installed capacity to process approximately 10,000 metric tonnes of rare earth-bearing minerals. India currently possesses adequate capabilities in mining, processing, extraction, and refining of high-purity rare earth oxides.
This strategic collaboration marks a significant step towards strengthening India’s critical mineral value chain and achieving self-reliance in key sectors.
