New Delhi: NLC India Limited (NLCIL), a leading public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Coal, Government of India, organized a Grama Sabha meeting at Iruppu Panchayat, Panruti, on November 1, 2025, as part of its ongoing outreach programs during the Vigilance Awareness Campaign. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about corruption, promote integrity, and strengthen public participation in building a transparent ecosystem.
Empowering Villagers Against Corruption
The Grama Sabha, attended by over 100 residents—predominantly women—was led by Ms. Citrakala, General Manager (Vigilance), NLCIL, along with senior officers from the Vigilance Department. The session emphasized the devastating effects of corruption, bribery, and maladministration, encouraging residents to report any unethical practices to appropriate authorities.
Ms. Citrakala highlighted the importance of upholding honesty and integrity as core values in everyday life, stressing the collective role of citizens in fostering a corruption-free society.
Awareness on Fraud and “Cash-for-Job” Scams
A major focus of the campaign was to educate the public about the dangers of “cash-for-job” scams. Officials reiterated that NLCIL’s recruitment processes are strictly merit-based, conducted only through public advertisements, and warned villagers against fraudulent job offers.
The vigilance team urged citizens to immediately report any deceptive employment schemes or cases involving theft of NLCIL resources such as sand. Participants also raised concerns about the growing threat of cybercrime, seeking guidance on digital safety. Officials introduced them to the “Kaaval Uthavi” mobile app — a digital tool for public security and emergency assistance.
Community Engagement and Cultural Participation
To encourage community participation, printed contact cards of key NLCIL departments were distributed to help residents directly reach relevant authorities for grievances or feedback.
As part of the awareness drive, a Rangoli competition on the theme “Let us Eradicate Corruption” was organized, attracting 11 enthusiastic participants. The creative event highlighted the villagers’ eagerness to support anti-corruption efforts.
A touching moment came when a visually impaired participant expressed heartfelt gratitude to NLCIL for including everyone in such initiatives, reflecting the inclusive spirit of the campaign. Villagers also used the platform to request the construction of a road across the nearby forest, citing safety and accessibility concerns.
The event concluded with prize distribution to Rangoli winners, tokens of appreciation for all participants, and a vote of thanks delivered by the Iruppu Panchayat Secretary.
