NMDC Focuses on Becoming a Diversified Mineral Miner
NMDC, which operates under the Ministry of Steel, is India’s largest iron ore mining company. The company supplies iron ore that caters to around 20% of India’s requirement for the key raw material used in steel production.
Alongside its core iron ore business, NMDC has been taking steps to diversify its mineral portfolio as it targets becoming India’s largest mineral mining company.
The company’s diversification plans include entering the thermal coal and coking coal segments.
NMDC to Begin Thermal Coal Production in Q3 FY27
NMDC is expected to commence commercial production of thermal coal during the October-December quarter of FY27.
The company is targeting sales of around 1 MT of thermal coal in FY27.
The move marks an expansion of NMDC’s operations beyond iron ore and is part of its broader strategy to build a diversified mineral portfolio.
Coking Coal Mine Development Planned in FY27
