New Delhi: NMDC Limited has recorded its highest-ever iron ore production of 53 million tonnes in the financial year 2025-26, marking a historic milestone in India’s mining sector. The achievement makes NMDC the first Indian company to surpass the 50 million tonnes annual production mark.
Robust Production and Sales Growth
NMDC’s performance in FY26 demonstrated strong growth across production and sales:
- Iron Ore Production: 53.15 million tonnes, a 21% increase year-on-year
- Iron Ore Sales: 50.23 million tonnes, a 13% increase
- March 2026 Production: 5.35 million tonnes, a 51% jump from the previous year
- March 2026 Sales: 40% growth over the corresponding year
The growth was driven by major iron ore mines, including Kirandul and Bacheli in Chhattisgarh and Donimalai in Karnataka, all achieving record outputs.

Strategic Expansion and Diversification
FY26 was also marked by significant expansion initiatives for NMDC:
- Inauguration of an international office in Dubai
- Commissioning of Deposit 4 at Bailadila in Chhattisgarh
- Operationalisation of the first coal mine in Jharkhand
The company aims to achieve over 100 million tonnes of iron ore production capacity by 2030, focusing on new mining projects, capacity enhancements, and infrastructure development.
