What Do ESG Ratings Measure?

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) ratings are increasingly used by investors and stakeholders to assess a company’s sustainability practices, responsible business conduct and long-term impact.

The three key components of ESG ratings are:

  • Environmental: Evaluates a company’s use of natural resources, waste management, pollution control, and risks and opportunities associated with environmental regulations and climate change.
  • Social: Examines how a company manages its relationships with employees, suppliers, customers and the communities in which it operates.
  • Governance: Assesses corporate leadership, executive compensation, audits, internal controls and shareholder rights.

These parameters provide a broader picture of how businesses manage their environmental and social responsibilities alongside corporate governance practices.

Improved ESG Rating May Strengthen NTPC’s Position Among Investors

ESG performance has become an increasingly important consideration in investment decisions worldwide. Investors are paying greater attention to companies that demonstrate responsible business practices and manage sustainability-related risks effectively.

NTPC’s improved ESG score may strengthen its visibility among investors focused on sustainable and responsible investment strategies. A higher rating can also provide an indication of the company’s progress in addressing environmental, social and governance-related risks.

The latest assessment reinforces the importance of sustainability and responsible operational practices in the energy sector, where environmental considerations and long-term resilience are particularly significant.
