New Delhi/Odisha: In a strong step towards enhancing industrial safety and emergency preparedness, NTPC Talcher Kaniha, in collaboration with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) 3rd Battalion, Mundali, Cuttack, successfully conducted a two-day Disaster Management Planning Workshop from August 6 to August 7, 2025.
The initiative, hosted at the NTPC Talcher Kaniha premises, is part of NTPC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen both internal preparedness and community resilience in the face of natural and industrial emergencies.
Inaugural Session and Leadership Vision
The workshop was formally inaugurated by Executive Director K. Narasimbha Reddy, who emphasized the strategic importance of disaster preparedness.
“Safety is not just a compliance measure—it is a culture that must be deeply embedded in every aspect of our operations,” he stated, highlighting NTPC’s dedication to safeguarding both employees and the surrounding community.

Multi-Agency Participation & Practical Focus
The event saw the participation of around 95 personnel, including:
- NTPC employees from multiple departments
- Members of the CISF Fire Wing
- Security staff and support teams
These diverse stakeholders came together to undergo interactive training modules delivered by the expert team from NDRF, designed to address a wide range of potential disaster scenarios.
Training Modules: From Natural Disasters to Chemical Hazards
The two-day agenda featured hands-on sessions and live demonstrations on:
- Cyclone and flood preparedness
- Lightning and electrical safety
- First Aid & CPR for adults and infants
- Evacuation drills for building collapse or earthquake scenarios
- Snake and dog bite management
- Use of improvised life-saving tools in low-resource environments
HCl Leak Mock Drill: Realism in Action
A major highlight of the workshop was the mock drill simulating a Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) leak from a storage tank. The simulation:
- Engaged NDRF, CISF, fire services, and ambulance units
- Tested coordination speed, protective protocols, and emergency communications
- Demonstrated a high level of preparedness and real-time execution across all response teams
The drill earned praise from observers for its realism and effectiveness, providing valuable insights into emergency containment procedures.
Commitment to Continuous Safety Excellence
Participants unanimously praised the practical orientation of the sessions and expressed appreciation for NTPC’s sustained engagement with NDRF in building a robust safety culture.
The workshop concluded with a renewed commitment to:
- Strengthen inter-agency coordination
- Promote safety-first thinking across all operational levels
- Continue organizing regular mock drills and training programs
