New Delhi: Mr Ashish Thakare, a 2011-batch IAS officer of the Odisha cadre, has been appointed as the Director of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Government of India.

The Competent Authority has approved his appointment under the Central Staffing Scheme for a tenure of five years or until further orders, whichever occurs earlier.

Appointment Details and Terms
The appointment notification, issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), directs the immediate release of Shri Thakare from his current duties to enable him to assume the new role in Delhi. The circular specifies that, in accordance with the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) guidelines, the officer must join the post within three weeks of the appointment order. Failure to do so may result in debarment from future Central Staffing Scheme postings.

Role and Responsibilities
As Director of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Shri Thakare will be responsible for overseeing policies, programs, and initiatives aimed at promoting the welfare and empowerment of persons with disabilities across India. The appointment reflects the Government’s ongoing commitment to inclusive development and social justice.

Background of Ashish Thakare
Mr Thakare, an IAS officer of the 2011 batch from Odisha cadre, brings extensive administrative experience from his tenure in various state government roles. His deputation to a critical central department underscores the importance of collaborative governance between state and central administrations.
