The Assam cabinet meeting was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. In this meeting, the cabinet has taken many important decisions. After the meeting, the Assam government has announced that first-class government jobs will be given to the sportspersons of the state who have won medals in the Olympics, Commonwealth, and Asian Games. At the same time, players who win medals in recognized world championship games will be given second-class jobs whereas, players who win medals in national games will be given third-class jobs.
The Assam government in a statement said that the monthly amount of sports pension would be increased from the existing Rs 8000 to Rs 10,000 and decided to provide sports pension to medal winners of Commonwealth and National Games.
It was also decided in the cabinet that the state government, under the chairmanship of retired IAS officer Himanshu Shekhar Das and former DGP PV Sumant, will recommend measures to improve the police system in the state, their activities and deployment for three months. It was also announced that the appointment of a Police Commission for Both Das and Sumant will get the status of Chief Secretary.
The government has decided to fill 15,000 vacant posts in Assam Police from 1st September.
