Boosting Ore Output: OMC MD Reviews Gandhamardan and Daitari Mines with Focus on Digital Upgrade & Green Practices

Keonjhar: Odisha Mining Corporation Ltd (OMC) Managing Director Sudhansu Mohan Samal (IAS, 2010 batch) reviewed mining operations at the Corporation’s Gandhamardan and Daitari Iron Ore Mines in Keonjhar district. The review emphasized boosting output, adopting advanced digital technologies, and reinforcing sustainable mining practices.

Operational Review at Gandhamardan Mines

During his visit, Samal inspected the Ore Stock Area, Quarry, and the Control Command Centre at Gandhamardan Mines. He directed teams to scale up production to meet annual dispatch targets while ensuring a steady ore supply to industries.

The MD also highlighted the importance of strict environmental compliance and stronger anti-pilferage measures. He encouraged the use of digital tools for real-time monitoring, safety improvements, and incident management. Accompanied by OMC’s Director (HR) Alok Kumar Pal, Director (Finance) Bana Bihari Pani, and senior officials, Samal underscored the Corporation’s focus on sustainable and accountable mining operations.

Focus on Welfare and Safety

In addition to operational matters, Samal reviewed employee welfare facilities at Gandhamardan. He reiterated OMC’s commitment to enhancing workforce health, safety, and access to better amenities, reinforcing the Corporation’s employee-first approach.

Inspection of Daitari Mines

At Daitari Mines, the OMC Chief examined the Quarry, Ore Handling Plant (OHP), Ore Stockyard at Baliparbat, and the Daitari Railway Siding (DRS). He urged the teams to strengthen mechanisation, improve grade segregation, and streamline ore handling processes.

Samal emphasized digitalisation of material tracking and better logistics coordination for timely ore evacuation and efficient rake loading. He called for systematic improvements to boost productivity and operational efficiency.

Driving OMC’s Long-Term Vision

Highlighting the Corporation’s strategic direction, Samal noted that production growth must align with environmental responsibility, innovation, and regulatory compliance. He encouraged mining teams to adopt a results-driven approach, reinforce accountability, and contribute to OMC’s mission of responsible mining and sustainable development.
