What Is One Nation One Fertilizer? How the Scheme Is Ensuring Timely Fertilizer Supply Across India

The Centre says the 'One Nation, One Fertilizer' initiative has improved fertilizer availability, digital monitoring and nationwide distribution, ensuring timely supplies for farmers during the Kharif 2026 season.

New Delhi: The Centre has said that the ‘One Nation, One Fertilizer’ initiative is strengthening fertilizer availability and distribution across the country through advance planning, digital monitoring and coordinated logistics. Introduced under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janurvarak Pariyojana (PMBJP) in August 2022, the initiative requires all public, cooperative and private companies to market subsidised fertilizers under the common ‘BHARAT’ brand.

According to the government, the unified branding has simplified fertilizer choices for farmers, improved transparency and ensured a more balanced supply across states. During the ongoing Kharif 2026 season, the availability of Urea, DAP, MOP and NPKS has remained adequate nationwide.

What Is ‘One Nation, One Fertilizer’?

The initiative was launched on August 24, 2022, to create a single national brand for subsidised fertilizers.

Today, all subsidised fertilizers—including Urea, DAP, MOP and NPKS—are sold under the BHARAT brand.

The initiative aims to:

  • Improve fertilizer availability.
  • Reduce confusion caused by multiple brands.
  • Ensure timely supply across the country.
  • Promote transparency and curb malpractices.
  • Reduce unnecessary inter-state movement of fertilizers.

How the Supply System Works

Before every cropping season, the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (DA&FW) estimates state-wise fertilizer requirements in consultation with state governments.

Based on these projections, the Department of Fertilizers (DoF) prepares monthly supply plans and allocates adequate quantities to every state.

The government also finalises fertilizer imports well before the cropping season to bridge the gap between domestic production and demand.

Digital Monitoring Improves Transparency

The movement of subsidised fertilizers is tracked through the Integrated Fertilizer Management System (iFMS).

This online platform monitors fertilizer movement across the supply chain in real time. It helps authorities identify shortages quickly and improve distribution efficiency.

Meanwhile, the Centre works closely with state governments, fertilizer manufacturers and importers to ensure timely placement of orders and uninterrupted supplies.

Railways Plays a Key Role

The Ministry of Railways also supports fertilizer movement by ensuring the availability of railway rakes and prioritising fertilizer transportation across the country.

At the district level, fertilizer distribution is managed by the respective state governments.

This coordinated approach has helped maintain adequate fertilizer stocks during the ongoing Kharif season.

Adequate Stocks During Kharif 2026

According to government data, fertilizer availability remained higher than both projected demand and actual sales in most states between April 1 and July 29, 2026.

The government considers two indicators while assessing fertilizer availability:

  • Availability higher than the projected requirement.
  • Availability higher than actual DBT sales.

These indicators suggest that sufficient stocks of Urea, DAP, MOP and NPKS have been maintained across the country.

Why the Initiative Matters

Timely availability of fertilizers is essential for maintaining crop productivity and ensuring stable agricultural output.

The One Nation, One Fertilizer initiative seeks to make fertilizer distribution more efficient through unified branding, digital monitoring and coordinated logistics. By reducing supply bottlenecks and ensuring farmers receive subsidised fertilizers on time, the initiative supports agricultural productivity and strengthens India’s food security.
