MP Higher Education Gets Major Push as State Signs 30 MoUs with IITs and Research Institutions Under NEP 2020 

National workshop in Bhopal inaugurated by Governor Mangubhai Patel and CM Mohan Yadav focuses on NEP 2020 implementation, AI, Indian Knowledge Systems, industry-linked curriculum, and partnerships with IITs and other premier institutions.

Bhopal: Bhopal witnessed a major step towards strengthening higher education as the Madhya Pradesh Higher Education Department organized a one-day national workshop on “Emerging Knowledge Areas, Advanced Curriculum: Vision, Direction and Implementation” under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The workshop was inaugurated at the R.C.V.P. Noronha Academy of Administration and Management, Bhopal, in the presence of Governor Mangubhai Patel and Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. During the event, the Higher Education Department also exchanged 30 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with leading national institutions to improve academic quality, research, innovation, and skill-based education across the state.

Quality and Value-Based Education is the Foundation of Nation Building: Governor Mangubhai Patel

Addressing the gathering, Governor Mangubhai Patel said that quality education combined with moral values is essential for the development of society and the nation. He emphasized that India needs a strong education system to achieve the vision of Developed India 2047.

He stressed that higher education institutions should focus on:

  • Skill-based and employment-oriented education
  • Value-based learning for students
  • Better placement opportunities
  • Industry-linked curriculum
  • Research and innovation based on local industrial requirements

The Governor urged universities and colleges to collaborate closely with industries and educational institutions to design new courses that meet changing workforce demands.

Employment-Oriented Courses Should Be a Top Priority

Governor Patel said that ensuring employability for every student must become the highest priority of the education sector.

He advised universities to:

  • Introduce more skill development programmes
  • Expand employment-focused courses
  • Strengthen placement mechanisms
  • Develop industry partnerships
  • Conduct research to create need-based academic programmes

According to him, such initiatives will help students become job-ready while contributing to India’s economic growth.

NEP 2020 Will Help Build Ethical and Skilled Youth: Chief Minister Mohan Yadav

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that the National Education Policy 2020 is helping the younger generation reconnect with ethical values while preparing them for future opportunities.

He noted that since the implementation of the policy, the Higher Education Department has made significant progress across multiple areas of higher education.

The Chief Minister also highlighted that 30 important MoUs were signed during the workshop with several prestigious national institutions, creating new opportunities for collaboration in education, research, innovation, and faculty development.

Indian Knowledge Systems to Become Part of the Curriculum

Higher Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar said that the state government is incorporating Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) into academic curricula.

He explained that the objective of NEP 2020 is not only to impart knowledge but also to ensure:

  • Skill development
  • Employment readiness
  • Industry-oriented education
  • Better placement support for students

The minister emphasized that higher education must continuously evolve according to changing industry requirements.

Multidisciplinary Education Essential to Address Climate Challenges

Director General of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, highlighted the growing importance of multidisciplinary education.

He said climate change is affecting ecosystems worldwide, making it essential to integrate:

  • Scientific thinking
  • Disaster management
  • Climate studies
  • Environmental awareness

Dr. Mohapatra also called for building an ecosystem by 2030 that can provide timely disaster warnings and assured that the IMD would make research data available to scholars.

Higher Education Department Expands Faculty and Digital Learning

Additional Chief Secretary of the Higher Education Department, Anupam Rajan, outlined several achievements made over the past two years.

He stated that:

  • Thousands of assistant professors have been recruited to address faculty shortages in colleges.
  • Special emphasis is being placed on Artificial Intelligence (AI), engineering education, digital technologies, and faculty development programmes.
  • The department continues to modernize higher education through academic reforms and technology integration.

Madhya Pradesh Signs 30 MoUs with Leading National Institutions

One of the major highlights of the workshop was the signing of 30 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between the Higher Education Department and leading educational, scientific, research, and government institutions.

  • IIT (BHU) Varanasi
  • IIT Roorkee

  • IIT Indore
  • India Meteorological Department (IMD)

  • Indian Institute of Forest Management
  • Indian Institute of Soil Science

  • Regional Institute of Education, Bhopal

These partnerships aim to strengthen research collaboration, curriculum development, faculty training, innovation, and practical learning.

Governor Calls for Drug-Free and Empowered Youth

Governor Mangubhai Patel said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Developed India is built on the pillars of:

  • Youth empowerment
  • Knowledge
  • Innovation
  • Skills
  • Public participation

He emphasized that educational institutions have a vital responsibility to nurture students who are educated, healthy, skilled, morally strong, and free from substance abuse.

According to him, NEP 2020 seeks to connect education with employment, research, innovation, Indian knowledge traditions, and human values.

Workshop Inaugurated with Traditional Ceremony

The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Governor Mangubhai Patel and Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav.

Additional Chief Secretary Anupam Rajan welcomed the Governor by presenting a sapling, along with a traditional stole and a commemorative memento.
