In a significant step toward financial inclusion and welfare, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Sunday transferred the second installment of the increased social security pension directly into the bank accounts of over 1 crore 12 lakh beneficiaries across the state. The total amount disbursed was Rs. 1247.34 crore.
The transfer was made through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) with a single click during a program held at the Chief Minister’s official residence on Aney Marg, Patna.
Rs. 1100 Transferred to Each Beneficiary
As part of the increased pension benefits, each beneficiary received Rs. 1100 in their bank accounts. This is the second installment since the pension amount was raised in June by Rs. 400, taking the total to Rs. 1100 across all social security pension categories.
According to the Department of Information and Public Relations (IPRD) Bihar, this mass transfer was aimed at ensuring timely and transparent delivery of pension benefits.
CM’s Message to Officials: Include All Eligible Beneficiaries
During the event, Mr. Kumar instructed officials to ensure that no eligible person is left out of the scheme. He emphasized the need to identify and include any individuals who have been inadvertently excluded from the pension system.
Six Major Pension Schemes Under the Program
The social security pension in Bihar covers six major categories of beneficiaries:
- Chief Minister’s Old Age Pension Scheme
- Lakshmibai Social Security Pension Scheme
- Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme
- Bihar Disabled Pension Scheme
- Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme
- Indira Gandhi National Disabled Pension Scheme
These schemes are aimed at supporting senior citizens, widows, and persons with disabilities who are among the most vulnerable sections of society.
Statewide Celebrations and Webcast of CM’s Address
To mark the occasion, special programs were held at block offices, panchayats, municipal bodies, and Anganwadi centers across all districts of Bihar. Beneficiaries listened to the Chief Minister’s address through live webcasting, making the event a state-wide participatory celebration.
This large-scale disbursal marks a major milestone in Bihar’s welfare governance and reflects the state government’s commitment to providing dignified support to its citizens in need.
