Patna: The Patna Book Fair at Gandhi Maidan, which commenced on December 5, has attracted not only book enthusiasts but also health-conscious visitors thanks to the Health Department’s well-organized medical camps. Spread across multiple stalls, these camps provide free health screenings, enabling visitors to identify potential health issues early.
In the first eight days of the fair, more than 3,000 people have utilized the services. Screenings included tests for heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, ECG, and oral cancer. In cases where health issues were detected, the department ensured free medicines were provided for conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, diarrhea, fever, cold, cough, and other seasonal illnesses.
Encouraging Routine Check-Ups Among Older Visitors
Health officials noted that visitors aged 40 and above were particularly proactive in availing of the medical check-ups. Of the total beneficiaries, over 2,200 people underwent screenings specifically aimed at detecting diabetes, high blood pressure, ECG irregularities, and oral cancer. The initiative emphasizes the importance of routine health assessments, especially for middle-aged and senior citizens, encouraging early detection and timely treatment of common health conditions.

Blood Donation Drive Sees Strong Participation
In addition to medical check-ups, the Health Department organized a voluntary blood donation camp at the fair. On Saturday, by 2 PM, 35 units of blood were successfully collected. Young volunteers and socially aware participants came forward enthusiastically to contribute, demonstrating the spirit of community service. The collected blood will be used in hospitals for emergency cases, including road accident victims and patients requiring urgent transfusions.
Government Initiative Promotes Preventive Healthcare and Public Awareness
The integration of health camps within a cultural and educational event like the Patna Book Fair reflects a broader government strategy to combine awareness, preventive healthcare, and community engagement. By offering screenings and free medicines, the initiative ensures that health services reach a large number of people who may not routinely visit hospitals.
Officials highlighted that the program has generated positive feedback from visitors, who appreciated the convenience of accessing health services alongside attending the fair. The initiative also underscores the government’s commitment to early diagnosis and treatment, reducing the long-term burden of chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disorders.
Impact on Local Health Awareness
The combined efforts of routine screenings and public engagement have created an environment where health consciousness is actively promoted. Visitors have reported feeling more informed about their health conditions and the importance of preventive care. By linking popular events with medical services, the Health Department is making strides in reaching a wider audience and fostering a culture of health and wellness.
