PESB Recommends Vamsi Rama Mohan Burra as New CMD of Power Grid Corporation of India

Appointment expected to strengthen leadership as PowerGrid expands renewable energy and grid infrastructure projects

New Delhi: The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended Mr. Vamsi Rama Mohan Burra for appointment as Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Schedule ‘A’ Central Public Sector Enterprise. The recommendation came following a rigorous selection process, with interviews conducted on December 13, 2025, under PESB Meeting No. 118/2025. The recommendation will now be forwarded to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) for final approval.

Mr. Vamsi Rama Mohan Burra, currently serving as Director (Projects) at POWERGRID, emerged as the preferred candidate among nine applicants, including senior executives from PowerGrid, Ircon International Limited, National Aluminium Company, and Bridge and Roof Company (India) Limited. Other notable candidates included:

  • Mr. Rajil Srivastava – Executive Director (Asset Management), POWERGRID
  • Mr. Pankaj Pandey – Executive Director (TBCB), POWERGRID
  • Mr. Akhilesh Pathak – Executive Director (Project Management), POWERGRID
  • Mr. L. K. Khajkumar – Executive Director (CMD Cell – Corporate Planning), POWERGRID
  • Mr. Alok Kumar Sharma – Executive Director (Northern Region–1), POWERGRID
  • Smt. Ragini Advani – Director (Finance), Ircon International Limited
  • Mr. Pankaj Kumar Sharma – Director (Production), National Aluminium Company Limited
  • Mr. Rajesh Kumar Singh – CMD, Bridge and Roof Company (India) Limited

The PESB, after a thorough evaluation of experience, strategic vision, and leadership capabilities, recommended Mr. Burra as the most suitable candidate to lead the organization during a transformative period for India’s power sector.
