New Delhi: Petronet LNG Limited (PLL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) to collaboratively develop 25 Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plants nationwide.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Mr. Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, along with Mr. Akshay Kumar Singh, MD & CEO of PLL, and Mr. Arvinder Singh Sahney, Chairman of IOCL.
Driving India’s Green Energy Transition
The partnership is a major step toward accelerating India’s transition to sustainable energy and supporting the country’s net-zero targets.
The initiative aims to leverage PLL’s leadership in infrastructure and IOCL’s technical expertise to create a scalable model for the CBG sector.

Roles and Responsibilities Under the MoU
Under the agreement:
- IOCL will provide Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) services, leveraging its technical and operational expertise.
- PLL will lead project delivery, including securing land, statutory clearances, and managing feedstock and offtake arrangements.
This collaborative model is expected to strengthen India’s bioenergy ecosystem and promote green fuel adoption across the country.

By combining PLL’s infrastructure capabilities with IOCL’s deep technical know-how, the initiative establishes a robust framework for CBG plant development, helping India reduce dependence on fossil fuels while advancing sustainable and renewable energy solutions.
