New Delhi: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) has announced the successful commissioning of its Khavda II-B transmission project, a critical inter-state transmission system aimed at facilitating large-scale evacuation of renewable energy from Gujarat’s Khavda region. The project was implemented through POWERGRID Khavda II-B Transmission Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of PGCIL, under the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route.
Project Details and Objectives
The Khavda II-B transmission system is part of the broader “Transmission scheme for evacuation of 4.5 GW renewable energy injection at Khavda Pooling Station under Phase-II, Part-B.” The project was fully commissioned on December 13, 2025, with the Declaration of Commercial Operation (DOCO) officially notified on December 18, 2025.
This system is designed to evacuate renewable energy from one of Gujarat’s largest renewable energy hubs, which hosts extensive solar and wind power projects. The new transmission infrastructure will enable more efficient integration of renewable energy into India’s national grid, supporting the country’s clean energy transition and ambitious climate targets.
Significance for Renewable Energy Integration
The commissioning of Khavda II-B marks a key milestone in strengthening interstate transmission infrastructure for renewable energy. With Gujarat emerging as a major hub for solar and wind power, the project ensures reliable and large-scale evacuation of green energy to meet growing electricity demand across states.
PGCIL’s efforts in projects like Khavda II-B play a crucial role in accelerating India’s renewable energy ambitions, enhancing grid stability, and facilitating the Government of India’s vision of achieving a sustainable and low-carbon energy mix.
