IAS officer Praveen Sinha has been appointed as Special Director of Central Bureau of Investigation. A 1988 batch IPS officer of Gujarat Cadre, Mr. Sinha was earlier serving as Additional Director.
Let it be noted that Special Director is the second senior-most position in the agency after the Director. The post was vacant for the last three years and was earlier held by Rakesh Asthana.
Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has recommended the name of Mr. Sinha for the post of Special Director which was approved by the Appointments Committee.
Mr. Sinha has served in the agency as superintendent of police, deputy inspector general, joint director and additional director in two stints between 2000 and 2021. He also served as the acting director after former CBI chief Rishi Kumar Shukla retired.
Atul Karwal promoted to DGP rank
Batchmate of Mr. Sinha, Atul Karwal has been promoted to DGP rank and granted the Level 16 pay matrix. The officer is currently serving as Director (ADG) of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad. While his posting remains the same, the post of Director SVPNPA has been restored to the level of Director General.
