Power Sector Coal Supplies Increase to 48.46 MT
Coal India’s coal supplies to the power sector increased 4.5% to 48.46 MT in August FY27, compared with 46.39 MT during August FY26.
The increase strengthens Coal India’s support to the power generation sector, where consistent coal availability remains important for meeting electricity demand.
The power sector continues to be the largest consumer segment for Coal India’s production and supplies.
Non-Regulated Sector Supplies Grow 9.6%
Supplies to the Non-Regulated Sector (NRS) recorded a higher growth rate during August.
Coal India supplied 12.12 MT to the NRS in August FY27, up 9.6% from 11.06 MT in the corresponding month of FY26.
The increase reflects stronger coal offtake across sectors outside the regulated power segment.

Coal India maintained strong growth in cumulative supplies during the first five months of FY27.
From April to August FY27, the company supplied 322.90 MT of coal, compared with 302.60 MT during the same period of FY26.
This represents a 6.7% year-on-year increase, indicating sustained growth in coal supplies despite the challenges associated with the monsoon season.
April-August FY27 Performance
- Coal supplies: 322.90 MT
- FY26 supplies: 302.60 MT
- Growth: 6.7%
- Pithead stocks liquidated: Around 55 MT
- Current pithead inventory: Around 76 MT
Higher Supplies Help Liquidate 55 MT of Pithead Stocks
The increase in coal supplies has also helped Coal India liquidate approximately 55 MT of pithead coal stocks during the first five months of FY27.
Despite the stock liquidation, the company currently has around 76 MT of coal available at its pitheads.
The inventory provides Coal India with additional supply support as the company prepares to meet power generation requirements in the coming months.
Coal India Prepares to Ramp Up Production After Monsoon
With intense rainy spells gradually receding and drier months approaching, Coal India is preparing to ramp up both coal production and supplies.
The transition into the drier period is expected to provide more favourable conditions for mining and transportation operations.
The company’s focus remains on maintaining adequate coal availability while supporting the requirements of the power sector and other consumers.
Coal India Strengthens Coal Supply Support
The rise in August supplies and cumulative April-August performance highlights Coal India’s continued focus on maintaining coal availability across key consumer sectors.
Higher dispatches to the power sector, stronger NRS demand and the availability of substantial pithead inventory provide a supply cushion as the company moves into the upcoming months.
