New Delhi: NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has formally incorporated a new joint venture company—Chhattisgarh NTPC Green Energy Limited—to accelerate renewable energy expansion across Chhattisgarh. The entity was officially registered on December 5, 2025, marking a significant step toward strengthening India’s renewable energy infrastructure in partnership with state utilities.
The joint venture is structured with NGEL holding 74% equity and the Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited (CSPGCL) holding the remaining 26%. With a controlling stake, NGEL will manage the strategic and operational direction of the new company, which will focus on large-scale renewable energy development.
Objective: Up to 2 GW of Solar, Wind, and Hybrid Power Capacity
The newly formed JV aims to develop, operate, and maintain renewable energy parks of up to 2 gigawatts (GW) across identified sites in Chhattisgarh. The project pipeline includes Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Parks (UMREPPs) and innovative floating solar projects on reservoirs—an emerging green technology that optimizes water surfaces for clean energy generation.
The initiative aligns with both state-level clean energy ambitions and India’s national renewable energy targets, providing a substantial boost to green power availability and grid stability in central India.
Financial Structure and Regulatory Clearances
NGEL has subscribed to 74,000 equity shares of the JV, each with a face value of ₹10, through a cash consideration. The formation of the company received formal concurrence from the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), through a communication dated April 23, 2025.
This collaboration is expected to attract further investment, enable project scalability, and facilitate the development of high-capacity renewable clusters in Chhattisgarh’s resource-rich terrain.
Strategic Impact on Chhattisgarh’s Power Sector
The establishment of Chhattisgarh NTPC Green Energy Limited is poised to significantly advance the state’s energy transition efforts. The addition of solar, wind, and hybrid systems will ease pressure on thermal power generation, promote sustainable development, and support ongoing power sector reforms.
Officials believe the JV will create new employment opportunities, boost local infrastructure, and contribute to India’s broader green growth vision under its climate commitments.
