Shillong, July 10, 2025 – Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman chaired a North‑East roundtable on the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS) at Shillong’s Lariti Auditorium. Participants included PMIS interns, state officials, and industry leaders, with a notable presence from NTPC.
Sitharaman urged interns to complete the programme and act as its “brand ambassadors.” She noted PMIS, initially meant for exposure, has also inspired entrepreneurship. Interns across the region praised the scheme, citing improved confidence, time management, and workplace readiness. An intern from East Khasi Hills shared how REC Limited placement taught him vital multitasking skills.
PMIS Delivers Real-World Exposure for Youth
PMIS connects interns to national and global companies. Intern Aditi Kashyap, working on hydrocarbon data, credited the experience with sharpening her discipline. Willkilinton Deori from Jorhat highlighted growing clarity about his career path thanks to PMIS.

NTPC Commits to Supporting PMIS Interns
Representatives from NTPC Ltd announced their commitment to PMIS. The PSU is offering 3,022 paid internships across 43 districts in 21 states, including technical roles in operations, maintenance, finance, HR, and data management. NTPC also provides safety equipment, personal insurance, and food support to interns—signifying its investment in youth empowerment.
ONGC to Prioritise PMIS‑Trained Interns

ONGC, through its official communication, pledged to prioritise PMIS‑trained interns during hiring. The PSU offers comprehensive support including accommodation, travel reimbursements, insurance, soft‑skills training, and pathways to full‑time roles via its contractors and service providers. ONGC’s CMD Strategy & Corporate Affairs noted: “We aim to continue giving placement preference to these trained interns.”
