Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, the election commission has transferred two IPS and an IAS officer in Punjab. According to the order released on Tuesday, Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Mr. Vishesh Sarangal and ADGP Ropar Range Jaskaran Singh and DIG Border Range Narinder Bhargav have been shifted.
Mr. Sarangal has been removed after ECI received a complaint that he was posted in his home district. Let it be noted that as per the provisions of the model code of conduct imposed during elections, an officer cannot serve in his/her home district.
The state government had asked for the permission to retain the two IPS officers on their current posts they were holding but the ECI turned down the plea. Mr. Jaskaran held two posts that include ADGP, Ropar Range and another in the intelligence wing of the state police. According to an official order, he can continue to hold the charge in the intelligence wing but has to be transferred out of the range.
Mr. Jaskaran and Mr. Bhargav both are due to retire in April and June respectively. Both of them have to be transferred out of the district and not posted within the same parliamentary constituency, as per the order.
