Punjab Govt Upgrades 12,000 Schools, Pushes Major Education Reform with Digital Learning and Global Training

Chandigarh: The Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has taken several major initiatives to strengthen and modernise the state’s education system, aiming to raise learning standards to global levels and improve access to modern teaching technologies.

The government has emphasized that education is a key driver of development, and continuous reforms are necessary to prepare students for a technology-driven future.

Education Reform Drive Under AAP Government

The Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab has placed strong focus on improving:

  • Government school infrastructure
  • Teacher training and capacity building
  • Digital learning systems
  • Student performance outcomes

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the state is working to align Punjab’s education system with global standards by introducing modern learning methods and international exposure for teachers.

Teachers Sent for International Training

As part of its reform strategy, the state government is sending government school teachers to countries like Singapore and Finland for advanced training.

₹2,000 Crore Investment in School Infrastructure

Under the “Education Revolution” initiative, the Punjab government has invested heavily in upgrading school infrastructure.

  • Nearly ₹2,000 crore allocated for education reforms
  • Around 12,000 government schools upgraded
  • Development of new classrooms and smart facilities
  • Installation of high-speed WiFi and clean drinking water systems
  • Introduction of smart interactive panels

These improvements aim to make government schools more competitive and technology-friendly.

Increased Budget Allocation for Education

For the financial year 2025–26, the Punjab government allocated approximately 12% of total expenditure to the education sector.

This funding supports:

  • Improved learning outcomes for students
  • Expansion of digital education initiatives
  • Teacher training programs
  • Infrastructure modernization across schools

Mission Samarth and Student Learning Improvement

Under initiatives like Mission Samarth, the government has focused on improving academic performance across government schools.

Results include:

  • Better learning outcomes among students
  • Strengthened foundational education
  • Focus on skill development and digital literacy

Digital Education and School of Eminence Model

Punjab has also introduced a modern digital education ecosystem, including:

  • Smart classrooms
  • Advanced science laboratories
  • E-learning platforms
  • Technology-driven teaching methods

In addition, the government has launched “School of Eminence” institutions to provide students with high-quality education comparable to private schools.
