New Delhi: The NEET UG computer-based exam reform has been officially announced by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan after the massive controversy surrounding the alleged NEET UG 2026 paper leak. The government said the medical entrance exam will move to a Computer-Based Test (CBT) format from next year to improve transparency, security, and fairness in the examination system.
NEET UG Computer-Based Exam: Government Announces Major NEET Reform
Speaking in New Delhi, Dharmendra Pradhan said the traditional OMR-based examination system was one of the key reasons behind vulnerabilities in the process. According to him, the shift to CBT mode is aimed at reducing chances of paper leaks and other examination malpractices.
The minister also repeated the government’s “zero tolerance” policy toward cheating and irregularities in national-level entrance examinations.
What is the Importance of NEET UG Computer-Based Exam
The decision comes after widespread outrage over the alleged NEET UG 2026 paper leak. The controversy forced authorities to cancel the examination conducted earlier this month, impacting more than 22 lakh students across India.
Officials believe that a computer-based examination system can offer:
- Better security monitoring
- Faster detection of suspicious activities
- Reduced risk of paper circulation
- Improved transparency in exam management
- Stronger digital tracking systems
Government officials admitted that while CBT exams are more secure, they also bring technical and logistical challenges because of the huge number of NEET candidates every year.
NEET UG Re-Exam Date Announced
The Centre has also announced a fresh NEET UG 2026 re-examination date following the cancellation of the previous test.
