Chandigarh: In a major boost to road infrastructure and regional connectivity, the Punjab government has issued the final notification for the four-laning of the Nangal–Kiratpur Sahib road, a key route leading to several prominent religious destinations. The long-awaited project is expected to significantly enhance road safety, tourism, and economic activity in the region.
Land Acquisition to Be Completed Soon
According to official sources, the land acquisition process will be completed within the next two months. Following this, the tendering process and on-ground construction work will begin at the earliest. The project is being undertaken after detailed surveys and assessments conducted by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), which established the technical and economic feasibility for four-laning the stretch.

Boost to Connectivity, Safety, and Tourism
Punjab Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains, while announcing the development, said that the upgraded road network will benefit nearly 100 surrounding villages by providing easier and faster access to markets and urban centers. He added that the improved connectivity would also boost religious tourism, positively impacting small traders, shopkeepers, transporters, and local entrepreneurs.
The four-lane road is expected to significantly reduce travel time, improve road safety, and support smoother movement of goods and pilgrims traveling to religious destinations along the route.
Economic Growth and Regional Development
The project is seen as a key infrastructure initiative aimed at stimulating economic growth in the region. By improving connectivity between rural and urban areas, the four-laning of the Nangal–Kiratpur Sahib road is expected to create new opportunities for trade, tourism, and employment, while strengthening the overall transport network of Punjab.
