The Punjab Cabinet has approved a new mentorship program where IAS, IPS, IFS, and IRS officers will adopt government schools to guide students and help shape their future. The pilot project will start in 80 Schools of Eminence, with one officer assigned to each school for five years, regardless of their job location.
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said officers can visit the schools weekly, monthly, or use video calls to interact with students. They will build a strong bond with students, share life experiences, prepare them for competitive exams, and also help train teachers. These officers will support schools voluntarily, without being given official authority, and may also help gather resources for the schools’ improvement.
The Cabinet also approved free pilgrimages under the ‘Mukhya Mantri Teerth Yatra Scheme’ for people above 50 years. The government will cover all costs, including AC travel, lodging, food, and will offer souvenirs. The scheme is open to people of all religions, castes, income levels, and regions, aiming to promote Punjab’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
