Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reaffirmed his government’s commitment to girls’ education, safety, and employment from birth to career as he transferred ₹145.93 crore directly into the bank accounts of 33,251 beneficiaries under the Nanda Gaura scheme.
The funds were released with a single click during a programme held at the Chief Minister’s residence for the financial year 2025–26. The amount was transferred through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), ensuring transparency and efficiency in the disbursement process.
Nanda Gaura Scheme: Promoting Birth, Education and Empowerment of Girls
The Nanda Gaura scheme aims to eliminate gender discrimination and encourage the birth and education of the girl child in Uttarakhand.
Under the scheme:
- ₹11,000 is provided at the birth of a girl child.
- ₹51,000 is granted for higher education after she passes Class 12.
Speaking at the event, Dhami said the initiative was launched to remove bias between sons and daughters and to create equal opportunities for girls across the state.

Over 3.77 Lakh Girls Benefited So Far
The Chief Minister highlighted that since its launch, the scheme has benefited 3,77,784 girls. So far, a total of ₹1,168.49 crore has been disbursed under the programme.
He added that the state government is actively promoting higher education for girls and strengthening women’s participation in public services.
30% Reservation for Women in Government Jobs
Dhami also underlined that Uttarakhand has implemented 30% reservation for women in government jobs. This move, he said, has improved women’s representation in public services and positively impacted workplace culture in government offices.
Lakhpati Didi Scheme Boosting Women’s Economic Independence
The Chief Minister referred to other women-centric initiatives, including the Lakhpati Didi scheme, which aims to improve the economic condition of women across the state by promoting financial independence and entrepreneurship.
He stated that the Nanda Gaura scheme has contributed significantly to:
- Curbing female foeticide
- Promoting institutional deliveries
- Encouraging girls’ education
- Reducing gender inequality
Minister Rekha Arya Shares Beneficiary Details
Rekha Arya, Women Empowerment and Child Development Minister, shared that out of this year’s total beneficiaries:
- 5,913 were newborn girls
- 27,338 girls received financial assistance after passing Class 12
She congratulated all beneficiaries and their families and reiterated the government’s dedication to women and child welfare.
Senior officials, including Secretary Chandresh Kumar and departmental director Banshilal Rana, were also present at the programme.
