New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday called upon Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE) to continue developing state-of-the-art platforms aligned with emerging technologies, asserting that the defence PSU has a crucial role in realizing the government’s vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.
Addressing GRSE personnel in Kolkata, West Bengal, Singh emphasised that the shipyard must keep pace with the evolving technology-driven landscape and position itself as a global benchmark in shipbuilding excellence.
GRSE’s Contribution to Nation-Building and the Blue Economy
Commending GRSE’s longstanding contribution, Singh described the shipyard as a vibrant chapter in India’s industrial and defence history. For nearly 150 years, GRSE has equipped the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard with advanced warships and frigates to safeguard India’s maritime interests.
“When a modern warship built by you sails through the waves of the ocean, it is not just a structure of steel and machinery; it embodies the hard work of thousands of workers, the innovation of engineers, the precision of technicians, and the dedication of the shipyard towards the nation,” Singh said.
He further highlighted that every employee at GRSE is not merely part of an organisation but an integral contributor to the larger process of nation-building.
Achievements and Future Vision
Highlighting GRSE’s accomplishments, Singh said the shipyard has achieved milestones once considered impossible through hard work, skill, and commitment. He urged the workforce to maintain the same spirit in order to help transform India into a major maritime power and a developed nation.
“New challenges will arise, new technologies will emerge, and competition will increase. But with the same dedication and commitment, GRSE will become a glowing symbol of shipbuilding excellence for India and the world,” he added.
Cultural Program Highlights Unity and Heritage
During the event, GRSE personnel and their families presented a cultural performance, which the Defence Minister described as excellent and reflective of India’s diversity, unity, and rich cultural heritage.
The event was also attended by GRSE Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Commodore PR Hari, IN (Retd), along with senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and the shipyard.
