Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav reviewed the ongoing construction and restoration work at the Shri Ram Raja Lok in Orchha and stressed the importance of preserving the region’s religious and cultural heritage for future generations.
During his visit to Orchha, the Chief Minister inspected construction activities at the Ram Raja Lok complex and directed officials to complete the works within the stipulated timeline while maintaining quality standards.
He also visited the historic Jujhar Singh Mahal and Jahangir Mahal, where he reviewed ongoing construction and restoration activities and observed the architectural features of the heritage structures.
Ancient Heritage to Be Preserved Alongside New Construction
During the inspection, the project architect briefed Yadav about the conservation of the historic Sawan-Bhado pillars located within the temple complex.

Officials explained that the design and development of Ram Raja Lok are being undertaken with attention to preserving the original character and historical significance of these structures.
Particular care is being taken to ensure that the ancient pillars are not damaged during the ongoing construction.
The surrounding area is also being organised and improved to make it more accessible to devotees while retaining the significance of the heritage structures.
Key conservation measures highlighted:
- Preservation of the original character of historic structures.
- Use of materials similar to those used in the original construction for restoration works.
- Protection of the Sawan-Bhado pillars during new construction.
- Restoration of historic buildings under the supervision and guidance of officials and skilled artisans.
- Improvement of areas surrounding the ancient structures for devotees.
Orchha Being Developed as a Tourism Centre
Yadav said Orchha’s temples and palaces represent the architectural and cultural heritage of the Bundela period and described the town as an important part of Bundelkhand’s history.
He said the government is working to restore historic buildings in a manner that retains their earlier character.
According to the Chief Minister, Orchha is being developed as a major tourism centre, with the Shri Ram Raja Lok project intended to add to the religious and cultural significance of the town.
Government Plans Integrated Development of Religious Sites
The Chief Minister also spoke about the development of major religious and historical destinations across Madhya Pradesh.
He said sites including:
- Orchha
- Chitrakoot
- Datia
- Nalkheda
- Pashupatinath in Mandsaur
- Sandipani Ashram in Ujjain
are being taken up for development as religious destinations.
Yadav said places associated with the life and traditions of Lord Ram and Lord Krishna would also be developed as pilgrimage sites.
He cited the development of Mahakal Lok in Ujjain, saying the number of devotees visiting Ujjain had increased following its construction and that the city’s economy had also changed significantly.
Focus on Religious Tourism and Local Employment
The Chief Minister said the development of major religious destinations is intended to promote religious tourism and create new employment opportunities at the local level.
He also emphasised the importance of connecting younger generations with Madhya Pradesh‘s religious and cultural heritage.
The state government, he said, is undertaking various activities to preserve the heritage and present it in accordance with its religious and cultural significance.
Ram Raja Lok Work Continues in Historic Orchha
The ongoing Ram Raja Lok project is being developed around the historic Ram Raja Temple, one of Orchha’s major religious and cultural landmarks.
During the visit, Yadav also interacted with operators of establishments within the construction area, heard their concerns and suggestions, and instructed officials to take necessary action to address the issues raised.
The inspection covered both the ongoing Ram Raja Lok construction and restoration work at Orchha’s historic structures, with the Chief Minister directing authorities to maintain quality and adhere to the prescribed timelines.
