Bhopal/Rewa: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav arrived in Rewa directly from New Delhi late Friday night to take stock of the flood situation in the region and immediately reviewed the situation with senior officials through a video conference.
At dawn on Saturday, August 30, the Chief Minister travelled to Chitrakoot, where heavy rainfall had triggered flood conditions following a sharp rise in the water levels of the Semraval and Mandakini rivers. He visited flood-affected areas, met residents who had been displaced by the rising waters and distributed relief materials among the affected people.
The Chief Minister also reviewed the ongoing relief and rescue operations and issued directions to officials to ensure that food, drinking water, medical assistance and other essential supplies reach every affected family without delay.
CM Reviews Flood Situation Through Overnight Meeting
Dr. Yadav reached Rewa from New Delhi last night and held an emergency review meeting with senior administrative officials through video conference.
The meeting focused on the flood situation, the preparedness of the administration and the relief and rescue measures being undertaken in the affected areas.

The Chief Minister directed officials to remain fully alert and continuously monitor the situation. He stressed that there should be no lapse in rescue operations or in providing essential assistance to people affected by the floods.
Following the overnight review, Dr. Yadav reached Chitrakoot early Saturday morning to assess the situation on the ground.
CM Meets Flood Victims in Chitrakoot
In Chitrakoot, the Chief Minister toured flood-affected areas and visited a shelter established by the Chitrakoot Development Authority.
He interacted with people who had been affected by the flooding, heard about the difficulties they were facing and assured them that the government would provide all possible assistance.
The Chief Minister also distributed relief materials among the flood victims.
Chitrakoot has experienced exceptionally heavy rainfall, resulting in a significant rise in the Semraval and Mandakini rivers. The rising water entered houses in several areas, damaging household belongings and other property.
According to the Chief Minister, however, no loss of human life has been reported so far.
Flood Breaks Previous Records
Speaking to the media after visiting the affected areas, Dr. Yadav said the heavy rainfall and consequent rise in the Semraval and Mandakini rivers had created flood conditions in Chitrakoot.
He said water had entered several homes and caused substantial damage to property. However, he credited the alertness of the administration and its prompt response for preventing any loss of life.
The Chief Minister said the flood had broken previous rainfall and flooding records, making continued vigilance and relief operations particularly important.
He said the administration had been on alert because of the weather forecast and had acted promptly after the situation developed.
Food, Water and Medical Care Prioritised
Dr. Yadav said the immediate priority of the government was to ensure the safety of affected residents and provide them with essential assistance.
He directed officials to make immediate arrangements for food, drinking water and medical care for people staying in affected areas and relief shelters.
“I have instructed officials to immediately ensure all necessary arrangements—including food, drinking water, and medical care—for the flood-affected people and to ensure there are no lapses in relief and rescue operations,” the Chief Minister said.
He also instructed the administration to maintain continuous monitoring of the affected areas and ensure that relief reaches people without delay.
Damage Assessment and Financial Assistance
The Chief Minister said a detailed assessment of the damage caused by the floods would be undertaken once the situation stabilises.
Officials will conduct a formal survey to assess losses suffered by residents, including damage involving livestock and property.
Dr. Yadav said financial assistance would be provided to eligible affected people according to government rules.
He said the immediate focus remained on relief and rescue and ensuring that affected residents could safely return to their homes after the water level recedes.
Administration Asked to Ensure Safe Return of Residents
The Chief Minister said the government was closely monitoring the situation and that administrative officials were present on the ground.
He said the priority was to protect people from further risk while ensuring adequate supplies at relief locations.
Once the floodwaters recede, the administration will assess the extent of damage and facilitate the return of affected families to their homes.
The Chief Minister also met residents during his early-morning visit and assured them that the government would stand with them during the crisis.
No Loss of Life Reported So Far
Despite the severity of the flooding and the entry of river water into residential areas, the administration has reported no loss of human life so far.
Dr. Yadav said the incident occurred during the day and the administration was already alert due to the weather forecast, helping authorities respond quickly.
He reiterated that the government’s entire focus at present is on relief and rescue, with damage assessment and financial assistance to follow as the situation improves.
