In a major move to strengthen rural healthcare accessibility in India’s Northeast, REC Limited has sanctioned ₹3.60 crore to Sewa International for the deployment and operation of three Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) in Tripura.
The initiative, undertaken as part of REC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitments, aims to elevate healthcare delivery in remote, underserved, and tribal-dominated regions of the state.
Three MMUs to Serve Dhalai and South Tripura Districts
As part of this project, two Mobile Medical Units will serve communities in the Dhalai district, while one will operate in South Tripura. The three-year collaboration will focus on providing doorstep medical services, bridging longstanding gaps in healthcare accessibility across the region.
The MMUs were officially flagged off on 30 November 2025 by the Hon’ble Governor of Tripura, Shri Indra Sena Reddy Nallu.
The ceremony saw the presence of key dignitaries including Mr Narayanan Thirupathy, Independent Director, REC Limited; Mr Shyam Parande, Global Coordinator and General Secretary, Sewa International; Mr Shubhendu Roy, CPM, Regional Office Guwahati, REC Limited; and officials from the REC CSR team.
GPS-Enabled Units with Comprehensive Healthcare Services
Each Mobile Medical Unit is equipped with GPS-enabled tracking, ensuring operational transparency and efficient route monitoring. The MMUs will offer a comprehensive range of healthcare services, including:
- Free medical consultations
- Basic diagnostic tests
- Essential medicines
- Preventive healthcare and awareness sessions
With an estimated reach of approximately 3,750 beneficiaries every month, these units are set to significantly improve the health profile of remote tribal communities that often struggle with limited access to primary health facilities.
A Step Toward Inclusive and Equitable Healthcare
This initiative is a testament to REC Limited’s continued dedication to enhancing the quality of life in rural and tribal areas. By strengthening community-level healthcare delivery, REC is supporting national development goals while contributing to a more equitable public health system.
The collaboration with Sewa International is expected to create sustainable impact and help build a more resilient healthcare ecosystem across Tripura’s interior regions.
