New Delhi: On the third day of the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026, a high-level Vendor Development Session titled “Advancing Make in India for Power Distribution” was successfully convened. The session, co-hosted by REC Limited and Power Finance Corporation (PFC), brought together over 150 senior representatives from government, utilities, and industry to explore strategies for strengthening domestic manufacturing and supply chains in the power sector.
High-Level Participation and Knowledge Sharing
The session witnessed participation from senior officials of the Ministry of Power, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and the Central Electricity Authority, alongside top representatives from leading distribution utilities, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), vendors, suppliers, and industry associations such as the Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers’ Association (IEEMA). KPMG served as the Knowledge Partner, providing insights on market trends and best practices.
The event was chaired by Shashank Misra, Joint Secretary (Distribution), Ministry of Power, and opened with welcome remarks by T. S. C. Bosh, Director (Projects), REC Limited, who highlighted the importance of domestic manufacturing in achieving a resilient power distribution network.

Industry Perspectives and Utility Best Practices
The session featured industry perspectives presented by IEEMA, followed by insights from leading DISCOMs on innovative practices. Key discussions included:
- SCADA indigenization – promoting local solutions for monitoring and control
- AI/ML applications in power distribution – enhancing operational efficiency and predictive maintenance
- Compact substations and underground cabling – modernizing infrastructure with GIS-based fault management
These initiatives aim to reduce reliance on imports while boosting the adoption of advanced technologies in domestic power distribution systems.
Panel Discussion: Strengthening Domestic Supply Chains
A dynamic panel discussion was moderated by senior officials including Pranav Tayal (Director, Ministry of Power), Saurav Kumar Shah (Executive Director, PFC), and Prabhat Kumar Singh (Executive Director, REC). The panel highlighted India’s readiness to scale up domestic manufacturing and emphasized:
- Scaling proven DISCOM practices, including SCADA–DMS–OMS integration and Real-Time Data Acquisition Systems (RT-DAS)
- Addressing gaps in critical, import-dependent materials
- Strengthening testing infrastructure, interoperability, and standards to ensure reliability and resilience
The discussions reflected a strong commitment to fostering collaboration between government, industry, and utilities to achieve sustainable, locally manufactured power solutions.
