In a significant development, the Satara Police conducted a three-hour-long inquiry at the residence of retired IAS officer Prabhakar Deshmukh concerning an extortion case allegedly linked to Maharashtra’s Rural Development Minister, Jaykumar Gore.
The investigation follows the recent arrest of a woman who was caught accepting a sum of ₹2 crore as part of an extortion demand. The woman was apprehended in Pune’s Koregaon Park while receiving the money, leading authorities to widen the scope of their probe.
Adding another layer to the case, journalist Tushar Kharat, known for making frequent allegations against Minister Jaykumar Gore, was also arrested. Multiple charges have been filed against Kharat, escalating the controversy.
During a recent Legislative Assembly session, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis disclosed that Prabhakar Deshmukh had been in contact with the woman who complained to Minister Gore. This revelation intensified police scrutiny, prompting officers to visit and question Deshmukh at his residence.
Following three hours of intense interrogation, the Satara Police left Deshmukh’s home without making any official statements regarding their findings. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are expected to provide further updates as new details emerge.
This case continues to attract widespread attention, with political ramifications potentially unfolding in the coming days.
