Shillong: Retired Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer CP Marak (1983 batch) was formally sworn in as the new Chairperson of the Meghalaya Lokayukta during a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan on Friday.
The oath of office was administered by Governor CH Vijayashankar, in the presence of Chief Secretary DP Wahlang, senior government officials, and other dignitaries.
A Veteran Administrator Takes Charge
CP Marak, who retired as Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) and Head of Forest Force (HoFF) of Meghalaya in June 2019, brings decades of administrative and field experience to the post.
Even after retirement, he remained active in public service, currently serving as the Executive Chairman of the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE). Known for his administrative acumen and integrity, Marak’s appointment is expected to bolster anti-corruption efforts and institutional transparency in the state.
Governor Expresses Confidence in Lokayukta’s Role
In his congratulatory remarks, Governor CH Vijayashankar expressed confidence in Marak’s ability to uphold the principles of justice, fairness, and accountability.
“I am confident that under Mr Marak’s leadership, the Lokayukta will continue to play a critical role in strengthening transparency and combating corruption,” the Governor said.

The Meghalaya Lokayukta plays a crucial role in addressing public grievances related to corruption and maladministration. With Marak at the helm, the state is expected to see renewed focus on ensuring integrity within the public service ecosystem.
