A first-of-its-kind two-day reunion of retired Uttar Pradesh cadre IAS officers was held in Lucknow, bringing together former bureaucrats and their families for an event focused on camaraderie, reflection, and post-retirement concerns. Organised at the Civil Services Institute over Saturday and Sunday, the reunion offered retired officers an opportunity to reconnect, share experiences, and deliberate on issues affecting life after service.
The event, described by participants as an occasion to “reminisce, rejoice, and recreate,” marked the first such gathering of retired IAS officers in the state capital and drew nearly 200 participants across both days.
Inaugural Session Began With High Tea and Theme of Camaraderie
The programme opened with high tea followed by an inaugural session titled “Bless the Reunion Celebrations: Long Live the Camaraderie.”
Participants said the opening session emphasized maintaining bonds developed during years of public service and strengthening interaction among retired officers who had served across different districts and departments in Uttar Pradesh.
The reunion then moved into a cultural evening attended by both retired and serving officers.
Cultural Evening Focused on Life After Retirement
A major highlight of the first day was a cultural programme featuring dance and dramatic performances centered on the emotional and social realities of retirement.
The performances depicted:
- How life changes after retirement
- How retired officers are viewed by younger serving officers
- The transition from administrative authority to ordinary civilian life
- How spouses adjust after years of official privileges and public recognition
Participants said the performances blended humour and realism, drawing attention to the psychological and social adjustments that often accompany retirement from top public office.
Senior Serving Officers Also Attended Evening Programme
According to participants, around 20 serving officers joined the Saturday evening cultural programme.
Among those present were:
- S. P. Goyal
- Anil Kumar
Their presence was seen as a gesture of institutional continuity and respect for former members of the administrative service.
A retired officer said most attendees were retired officers and their families, while serving officers joined specifically for the cultural segment.
Sunday Reserved for Discussion on Post-Retirement Concerns
The second day of the reunion was dedicated exclusively to retired officers and focused on issues affecting them after retirement.
Participants discussed several practical challenges commonly faced by retired civil servants, including:
- Pension-related administrative procedures
- Access to official records
- Documentation requirements
- Institutional support after retirement
- Social engagement and structured interaction platforms
Retired officers noted that while active service offers a structured professional identity, retirement often brings administrative and personal challenges that require collective discussion.
Life Certificate Submission Facility Provided at Venue
One practical initiative during the reunion was the provision of a facility for submitting life certificates at the venue itself.
A retired officer said many pensioners face difficulty in completing annual life certificate formalities, particularly elderly officers with mobility concerns.
To address this, arrangements were made at the Civil Services Institute on Sunday so that officers could complete the process conveniently during the event.
This step was appreciated by participants as a useful support measure.
Organised by Retired IAS Officers’ Representative Body
According to participants, the reunion was organised by a body representing retired IAS officers of Uttar Pradesh.
Officials associated with the event said the organisation has existed for nearly two decades and functions as a forum for retired officers to stay connected and collectively address common concerns.
Office-bearers of the Uttar Pradesh IAS Association were not officially available for comment during the programme.
Annual Tradition Proposed Until IAS Week Revives
Retired officers said there is now a plan to continue such reunions every year.
One participant stated that annual gatherings would continue until the Uttar Pradesh IAS Association formally resumes holding IAS Week in the state.
The proposal reflects growing interest among retired officers in creating a regular institutional platform for interaction beyond ceremonial meetings.
Reunion Reflects Continuing Administrative Community Beyond Service
Participants described the event as more than a social gathering, saying it highlighted how administrative identity often continues long after formal retirement.
For many former officers, the reunion served as:
- A forum for memory-sharing
- A support network
- A platform to discuss age-related administrative challenges
- A way to remain connected with evolving governance structures
The turnout also reflected continued engagement of retired officers with the administrative community in Uttar Pradesh.
