RITES Limited announced on Wednesday the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Etihad Rail to explore collaborative opportunities in developing railway infrastructure and related services in the UAE and the wider region. Etihad Rail is responsible for the development and operation of the UAE National Rail Network.

The MoU was signed during the Global Rail Transport Infrastructure Exhibition & Conference in Abu Dhabi by Etihad Rail CEO Shadi Malak and RITES Limited Chairman and Managing Director Rahul Mithal. The partnership aims to leverage the strengths of both entities in areas such as the supply and leasing of rolling stock, consultancy, project management, and the operation and maintenance of railway infrastructure.

A significant aspect of the agreement includes a capacity analysis of rail corridors in the UAE, aimed at improving efficiency, streamlining logistics, and enhancing trade routes. Both parties will explore advanced IT solutions for train operations and passenger management, alongside technical inputs on maintenance practices.

The partnership will also focus on knowledge transfer, expertise sharing, and workforce development through comprehensive training programs and employee exchange initiatives.

Speaking on the occasion, Rahul Mithal said, “This strategic collaboration with Etihad Rail underscores our commitment to operational excellence and innovation, contributing to sustainable infrastructure development. It aligns with our ‘RITES Videsh’ initiative to expand global services.”

Shadi Malak added, “This partnership marks a significant step towards transforming the UAE’s transportation landscape, leveraging combined expertise to modernize and enhance the National Railway Network, benefiting both freight and future passenger services.”
