RITES Limited, a leading engineering consultancy firm, signed a contract on Monday to supply 200 Broad Gauge (BG) passenger carriages to Bangladesh Railways. The contract, valued at $111.26 million (approximately Rs 915 crore), is funded by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and was secured through a global competitive bidding process.
Under the terms of the agreement, RITES will not only supply the carriages but also provide expertise in design, spare parts support, and training. The contract stipulates a supply and commissioning period of 36 months, followed by a 24-month warranty period.
The signing ceremony in Dhaka was attended by officials from both RITES and Bangladesh Railway, with Bangladesh Railways’ Minister Zillul Hakim present.
This contract underscores RITES’s dedication to promoting growth through the export of indigenously developed, world-class railway rolling stock, aligning with the ‘Make in India, for the World’ vision.
RITES has a long-standing partnership with Bangladesh in infrastructure development. Previously, it supplied 120 BG Passenger Coaches (LHB type), 36 BG locomotives, and 10 Meter Gauge locomotives to Bangladesh Railways, along with collaborating on other infrastructure projects.
