New Delhi: Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), a central Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Railways and its construction arm, has won a significant contract from Southern Railway. The announcement came through an official exchange filing.
Project Details: Design and Implementation of Traction Sub Stations
RVNL emerged as the Lowest Bidder (L1) for the comprehensive project titled “Design, Supply, Erection, Testing & Commissioning of Traction Sub Stations (Scott-Connected) Inclusive of Power Quality Compensating Equipment with Associated Switching Posts (SP/SSP) for 2×25 kV AT Feeding System and SCADA & Automatic Fault Locator (AFL) in Jolarpettai Junction to Salem Junction Section.” This project falls under the Salem Division of Southern Railway and supports the Mission 3000MT Loading Target.
The contract value stands at Rs 145.34 crore with a project execution timeline of 540 days.

Strategic Importance of the Project
The installation of advanced traction substations equipped with power quality compensating equipment and automatic fault locators will enhance the reliability and efficiency of the rail network in the JTJ-SA section. This is a critical part of Southern Railway’s plan to meet increasing freight load targets, ensuring seamless power supply and monitoring through SCADA systems.
Market Reaction
Following the announcement, RVNL’s shares were trading marginally lower by 0.49% at Rs 357.15 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), reflecting cautious investor sentiment amid market fluctuations.
