New Delhi: Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has received a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) from South Central Railway for the upgradation of the existing 1×25 kV traction system to a 2×25 kV Auto Transformer (AT) feeding system in the Ongole–Gudur section of the Vijayawada Division.
Project Scope and Objectives
The project covers a total of 154 route kilometers (RKM) and 462 track kilometers (TKM). It involves comprehensive activities including:
- Design and engineering of the upgraded traction system
- Supply of materials and equipment required for the system
- Erection, testing, and commissioning of the new 2×25 kV AT system
The upgradation aims to enhance traction capacity, operational efficiency, and reliability of train services along this busy railway section.

Timeline and Project Value
The project is scheduled to be executed over a 24-month period with a project value of approximately ₹242.49 crore. Once completed, the upgraded system is expected to:
- Reduce transmission losses and energy consumption
- Improve train punctuality and operational efficiency
- Strengthen overall railway infrastructure in the region
This milestone reinforces RVNL’s ongoing commitment to modernising India’s railway network and supporting technologically advanced electrification projects.
