RVNL Wins TAI Excellence Award 2025 for Rishikesh–Karnaprayag Rail Line Tunneling Project

New Delhi: Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has been honoured at the 5th edition of the TAI Excellence Awards 2025, receiving the prestigious “Tunneling Project of the Year” accolade for its work on the Rishikesh–Karnaprayag Rail Line in Uttarakhand. The awards were presented during the Tunneling Asia 2025 International Conference, celebrating excellence and innovation in tunneling projects across Asia.

On behalf of RVNL, the award was received by Mr. Ajit Singh Yadav, former Chief Project Manager (CPM), Rishikesh, acknowledging the company’s outstanding contribution to railway infrastructure development in challenging terrains. The recognition highlights RVNL’s commitment to implementing world-class tunneling technologies while navigating complex Himalayan geology.

Engineering Milestone in Himalayan Tunneling

The Rishikesh–Karnaprayag Rail Line project, part of India’s strategic railway expansion in the hilly regions of Uttarakhand, required advanced engineering solutions due to steep gradients, unstable rock formations, and difficult terrain. RVNL deployed state-of-the-art Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) along with cutting-edge tunneling systems to ensure precise and safe execution of the project.

The project demonstrates the application of innovative engineering practices and sophisticated tunneling technology, setting a benchmark for future railway infrastructure projects in mountainous regions of India. The successful completion of tunneling works is expected to significantly improve rail connectivity, enhance transportation efficiency, and contribute to the socio-economic development of Uttarakhand.
