New Delhi: In a key leadership development, S Thirumalai Selvam, currently serving as General Manager & Technical Assistant to the Executive Director (RDCIS) at Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), has been selected for appointment as Director (Projects) at Sagarmala Development Company Limited (SDCL).
The selection was made by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) during its meeting held on May 1, 2025. His appointment is subject to requisite vigilance clearances and final approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
Extensive Experience in Project Design and Engineering
With nearly three decades of experience at SAIL, Mr Selvam has held various strategic roles, primarily in design and engineering. He joined SAIL in September 1995 and has been instrumental in driving R&D and project innovations.
Academic Credentials
Mr Selvam holds a Master of Science (Consultancy) from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani and an MBA in Human Resource Management from the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

The PESB panel selected Mr. Selvam after interviewing 11 candidates from prominent PSUs including SAIL, NTPC, BHEL, RINL, Engineers India Ltd, and the Indian Navy. His diverse background and technical expertise set him apart in the competitive selection process.

Once his appointment is formalized, Mr. Selvam is expected to play a critical role in advancing key infrastructure and port development projects under the Sagarmala programme, a flagship initiative by the Government of India to enhance the country’s logistics sector and maritime capabilities.
