Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), India’s largest steel producer, announced the supply of approximately 45,000 tonnes of steel for the upcoming Mahakumbh Mela, set to take place in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, from January 13 to February 25, 2025. This iconic religious congregation, one of the largest globally, requires extensive infrastructure and SAIL’s contribution includes chequered plates, hot strip mill plates, mild steel plates, angles, and joists.
The steel will be utilized for constructing essential temporary structures such as pontoon bridges, steel passages, substations, flyovers, and temporary bridges. Major customers include the Public Works Department, Uttar Pradesh State Bridges Corporation, and the Electricity Board.
SAIL expressed pride in supporting the event, emphasizing its commitment to contributing to projects that enhance national infrastructure and cultural heritage.
Despite its involvement in such large-scale projects, SAIL reported a 31% decline in consolidated net profit for Q2 FY2024-25, falling to Rs. 897.15 crore from Rs. 1,305.59 crore in the same period last year. The company’s total income dropped to Rs. 24,842.18 crore, while expenses stood at Rs. 23,824.07 crore.
